Pamunkey Indian Reservation Tour

So, this being Sam's first time on the Res... I thought I would show him around, tell him a little bit about his background and the wonderful people the were part and still part of the Res today.

Here we are at "the landing". I spent many summers here swimming and dodging snakes...fun times...uh, how cute can this little guy get!

Directly next to the pier that we used to jump off of to swim is the fish hatchery...sort of a new addition to the Res. Shad fish have always been a very important aspect of the Reservation's economy, so when the population started to dwendle, the fisherman had to create the hatchery.

This is my Grandma Bradby's house...now my cousin Frank's...who has done a wonderful job restoring it.

Here is a view of the "shanties"....they used to be very dilapidated little fishing huts...but Hurricane Isabelle wiped most of them away and people rebuilt them really as river hang outs with a/c and comfy furniture.....

Just down the way from "the landing" is Grover's Craft shop.....really Grover's house with a shop in the back...we love Grover!
This fireplace is what is left of the old trading post where the women used to sell their pottery and jewelry....in the early 1900's.

Well...the sign says it all...
A relief sculpture of Chief Powhatan...who is said to have lived amongst the Pamunkey's..
Powhatan's Burial Mound...so the legend says....
The mound overlooks the Pamunkey river at a part of the Res we call "the pocket"...an absolutely beautiful spot..
Sammy reading all about Powhatan at the mound...
Sammy saying "Hi" from the Pamunkey Baptist Church....
The sunrising viewed from my parents porch..the day we left this magnificent place....
We love and miss you guys so much! Can't wait to come back soon!
